015: The secret to EVERY personal breakthrough

June 27, 2014 By deacon Leave a Comment

personal-breakthroughs

At the most fundamental level all successes and failures boil down to this: your belief system.

Really. Every decision that you make, every action that you take, is all fueled by your beliefs.

You may have heard people talk about limiting beliefs holding them back. Or maybe you’ve heard people overcoming mental barriers and achieving huge breakthroughs.

That’s what they’re talking about.

I used to think this stuff was too simplistic to understand. Sure, I know what a belief is. But after years of study I now know that it is the single most powerful thing in my life.

It has the power to create. It has the power to limit. And unless I understand how to use beliefs effectively in my favor, then I will never reach my true potential.

Today I’m going to share the fundamentals of how beliefs are working to influence your own decisions, actions, and ultimately results.

014: Connecting with high performers when nobody knows your name (with Jared Easley)

June 25, 2014 By deacon Leave a Comment

jared-easley-starve-the-doubtsA year ago nobody knew who Jared Easley was. He had dreams of becoming a professional speaker, and goals of connecting with successful people, but it wouldn’t be easy starting from scratch.

Fast forward to today and Jared has interviewed, helped, dined with, introduced, and befriended some of the top names on the internet (Seth Godin, Michael Hyatt, and Chris Brogan to name a few).

Jared is a master connector and gives us a peak behind the curtain today at the mindset that fueled his success. This is not just another “how to network” interview. I was blown away by the simple shift in mindset that sets Jared apart from everyone else.

Where will you be one year from today?

013: Pound the Rock – lessons from a seven figure startup (with Bernie Yoo)

June 23, 2014 By deacon Leave a Comment

bernie-yoo-bombfellStarting something new is hard. Starting something new that other people are excited about too is even harder!

As they say, most businesses don’t fail because they couldn’t do what they set out to do. Most businesses fail because they create something that nobody wanted in the first place.

That’s exactly what Bernie did the first time, and it was an expensive lesson to learn. But Bernie was far from done. He took the lessons he learned from doing things the wrong way, and was able to turn it into a success in a very short time on his next venture just one month later.

Bernie shares some proven wisdom from the trenches of the software startup world about how to find and do the work that matters, and face your fears along the way.

012: The force that shapes your life

June 20, 2014 By deacon 2 Comments

canyon

The end of last year was challenging for me. At the time I was debating moving forward or pulling the plug on a startup I’d invested months in.

In the middle of that decision I discovered some habits, behaviors, and beliefs that were a significant road block to moving forward. So I went on a quest to learn more about why I was struggling so much with something seemingly so benign.

What I learned through my research has completely changed everything for me. Not only did it help me change some relatively trivial habits, but it also helped me do big, scary things (like launching this podcast).

In this interview I share the key that has helped me flip the switch on some tough behavior changes, and the exact steps to take so you can do the same thing.

011: Living your legacy (with Theresa Campbell)

June 18, 2014 By deacon Leave a Comment

Live your legacy today so you can leave your legacy tomorrow.

theresa-campbellWhen you want to be successful it’s hard to know where to start. In this day and age you probably don’t have to look very far to find other people succeeding at what you want to be doing.

Usually the first thing we do is copy what’s working for someone else.

That can be a great place to start and a really good way to get some early momentum. It’s not where you want to stay for long though.

Theresa Campbell is with us today and talks about the importance of being true to who you are. Theresa is an author and a coach who teaches people how to get crystal clear on who they are, what they want, and then helps them get there.

Theresa shares in this interview:
– the key to success and the key to life.
– how to keep her business and her full time job going strong.
– the importance of finding help and support from others

010: Building a successful apparel brand with no prior experience (with Jake Thompson)

June 16, 2014 By deacon Leave a Comment

compete-every-day-1

Years ago I discovered what it meant to pursue my dreams and fight to live a great story. Every day since then I’ve woken up on a mission to keep building my vision.

And it’s not easy.

Even years into the journey it’s still tough to keep executing at a high level sometimes. I need encouragement. I need motivation. I need reminders of why I’m doing it.

I’m fired up to introduce you to Jake Thompson and Compete Every Day today. Jake created his company to encourage and inspire those of us in the trenches working to escape the status quo.

Jake shares:

  • how he built the brand from scratch with no experience
  • how he lost money one his biggest event last year
  • advice on what you must get comfortable doing if you want to succeed

009: Five keys to shipping a big, scary, world changing project

June 13, 2014 By deacon Leave a Comment

ship-your-projectIf you don’t ship, then it doesn’t matter. It’s as simple as that.

A great idea never executed is worthless. A half finished project doesn’t impact the world.

But that doesn’t mean it’s easy. In fact, the bigger the project, the more audacious the idea, or the higher the call you’re answering, then the harder it will be to ship it (even if you’ve been working on it for months).

I just experienced this recently with the launch of this podcast. I had everything ready, organized, and recorded. All I had left to do was push the publish button and submit my podcast to iTunes.

That last tiny step was the most difficult though. I came up with a hundred reasons to delay the launch.

008: Taking risks and shipping from the trenches (with Tom Morkes)

June 11, 2014 By deacon 2 Comments

Tom-Morkes-headshot3The only real limitations are those in your own mind. You’ve probably heard that somewhere before. In fact, it’s somewhat cliche it’s so common.

But I’m guilty of suffering from it myself.

One thing I’ve always let hold me back in the past is lack of experience.

I looked at guys who had started great companies and done great things and I thought, “wow, what does it take to be able to start doing something like that?”

But really, it’s just something I let hold me back.

Tom Morkes is here to illustrate exactly what you can do when you don’t let lack of experience hold you back. Tom has some big dreams, and is already knocking them off one by one! And my favorite part of Tom’s story, he had zero prior experience in the industries where he’s currently making a splash!

007: From stuck to published author – my hope-fueled journey (with Jim Woods)

June 9, 2014 By deacon 2 Comments

ready-aim-fireThere’s no worse feeling than feeling stuck. When you feel stuck all your efforts seem wasted and the easiest thing to do is to do nothing. But nothing won’t get you anywhere!

Just a few short years ago Jim Woods found himself right in the most discouraging place possible: he was stuck. Feeling unfulfilled and unsure of how to get moving again, his body started showing the signs of the pressure he was under.

I was 30 at the time. I developed Asthma for the first time. My body was rebelling against me and I was having a nervous breakdown.

Fast forward to today and Jim is a published author about to release his second book, and regularly helps other people get unstuck through his writing and coaching.

Along the way Jim has learned some incredible lessons on getting unstuck, what it takes, and the challenges along the way. We’re lucky to have him on the show today to share his insights and lessons learned.

006: The right and wrong way to launch a new idea

June 6, 2014 By deacon Leave a Comment

When I was first getting started with launching a business idea or a new project I made the same mistake everyone else does: I fired a cannonball.

I spent over six months working up to this idea launch and when I finally got there it totally fizzled.

There’s a much better way though, and in this session I’ll expand on some ideas Travis shared with us in session 4 and tell you how I wish I had gotten started years ago.

Most people believe that successful businesses are successful because they started with a better Plan-A. Really, they just started, and were able to iterate from Plan-A to a plan that works before they ran out of resources.
