You’ve got some big dreams for your life, and if you’ve taken the time to turn those dreams into a vision then you’ve got a pretty solid idea of what that looks like. Exciting huh!
I know for me this is one of the most fun parts. I know what my ideal life looks like, and it’s something that motivates me daily to work towards getting there.
But it’s also really overwhelming! If you’re anything like me, then your vision is pretty big! So big in fact that I often find myself paralyzed by it.
Where do I start? What should I do next? How do I even begin to work towards something I know so little about?
Motivational expert Tom Hopkins advises,
“Take it in steps. If you’ve never made more than minimum wage, don’t aim for half a million dollars in your first year. Always aim for something that excites you a lot and scares you a little.“
Building Life Stoked
Let’s take me for example. I want to turn Life Stoked into a business. A BIG business. Because to me money is a resource, and the more of it I have the more I can funnel it to doing awesome things!
But going from nothing (where I started), to a blog, to a seven figure business is, well, scary! And to be honest I have no idea how to get there.
Break it down
So I break it into steps. Before I can make $100,000, I have to make $50,000, and $10,000, and $1,000, and $100.
Now making $100 doesn’t seem that scary. It’s something I can get my head around, and it’s something I can go after fast!
I’m not wasting time thinking through things like, “will this idea be able to scale to seven figures?” I’m a long way away from that part!
Right now I just need to get pointed in a direction and start taking some real steps.
Write it up
What about your vision? How can you break that down into bite sized pieces? Where would you need to be in five years? Three years? One year?
What is a goal you could set for yourself today, that accomplishing it by this date next year would move your closer to your vision?
Remember: Always aim for something high enough that excites you a lot and scares you a little!
