002: Turning your passion into a successful business (with Chase Ingraham)

May 28, 2014 By deacon 1 Comment

ChaseIngrahamYou’re walking along the track when suddenly a football lands at your feet. You casually pick it up and rip a 50 yard bullet back to the coach. You’ve been discovered.

Isn’t that what we imagine finding our dream job is supposed to be? You’ve secretly been harboring world class talent, and if you could just find out what it is you’d finally be unleashed to change the world.

Chase Ingraham shares with us today what it’s really like to find your calling, and it’s probably not like you’ve imagined. Chase was an engineer trying to build a career in the corporate world when he discovered CrossFit. But he wasn’t an instant star. Even though he knew this was his future and his dream, it wasn’t because he was an instant success. In fact, in his own words he SUCKED.

But that’s not the end of the story. Chase shares with us the behind the scenes story and the mindset that it took to go from newbie, unhelpful coach to CrossFit Headquarters Seminar Instructor teaching other people how to do things right.

Success Quote

“The Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? Whom shall I be afraid?”
– Psalm 27:1

Business

Founder, Head Coach, and owner of CrossFit BigD in Dallas, Texas.

A Challenge

Chase knew he wanted to open his own gym from the time he coached his first CrossFit class. Only one problem, he sucked at coaching! Learning how to be a great coach was the only way he could fulfill his dream of owning his own gym that positively empowers and impacts people’s lives.

Rapid Fire Questions

One thing holding him back:
Working in a system (corporate world) where he was stuck. His results weren’t accelerating him forward.

One habit that helped him succeed:
Leading by example from the front.

Key success characteristic:
Willing to take the leap and face his fears.
