3 Questions To Get You Moving

questions when you're stuck

I always strive to be better tomorrow than I was yesterday. Sure it’s a great philosophy, but it’s not always that simple is it?

Sometimes things just don’t move forward.

Sometimes you get stuck.

Even with the best intentions and a lot of motivation you will hit a wall every now and then.

Lately I’ve been struggling with productivity. I’ve got some awesome things planned for Life Stoked, but I’m spending too much energy spinning my wheels.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m putting in a lot of time on this stuff, and I’m having a blast. But I can tell I’m not completely in stride. I could be getting better results without struggling so much.

It happens. (And I know it happens to you too because I get this question a lot.)

But what happens next will either set you on a path towards greatness or cement your place in mediocrity.

If you’re aiming for mediocrity, then you’re done. Just keep doing what you’re doing. It’ll come (be patient).

But if you’re aiming for GREATNESS then ask yourself these three questions:

What’s working?

When am I able to make the most progress on Life Stoked? When do I do my best work? What topics am I the most passionate about? And how am I able to help others most effectively?

What’s not working?

Where am I spending time and not getting results? What is getting in my way? Am I disorganized? Am I watching too much TV? Am I getting distracted or spending my time on unimportant things?

What’s next?

Now you know what’s working, and you know what’s not. So how can you cut out stuff that’s not working and add more of stuff that is.

Maybe it’s not immediately clear how to fix it – that’s okay. The important thing to remember is that something has to be next. Do something different – right away.

Don’t wait for the perfect solution to come to mind. Change as soon as you can and see what happens.

I’ll be living this out painfully this week as I try a new schedule. One of the things that’s not working for me is getting home at 6:30 pm (at the earliest). Something needs to change.

So this week I’m going to try shifting my whole day earlier. Get up early. Get to work early. Get home early. Then the hard part for me – going to bed early.

Will it work? Beats me, but I’ll know soon.

So where are you stuck right now? Have you surrendered to your circumstances or are you going to fight to change things (if you said fight to change things, we’re going to be best friends).
